Hometree vs British Gas

Both include an annual service and offer £0 excess. The differences are in price, renewals and extras. Here's how they compare.

Prices checked on each provider's website on 6 November 2026, for new homeowners. Your price may vary by postcode, boiler and excess.

Quick answer: Hometree is usually cheaper for boiler cover and caps renewals at inflation if you don't claim. British Gas costs more but adds accidental damage cover, a shorter waiting period and same-day engineers for most people who call by 11am. Both include an annual service.

Compare like with like

Both include a yearly service, so neither needs the cost of a separate service added on. Compare them at the same excess: both offer £0, and the monthly price rises when you choose it. If you keep cover for more than a year, Hometree's inflation cap on renewals (if you don't claim) can matter more than the first year's price, because British Gas doesn't publish its renewal prices.

With either provider, faults that already exist when you join aren't covered.
