Compare like with like

HomeServe's headline price comes with a £100 excess and no service. If you'd pay for an annual service anyway, and you're likely to keep the plan beyond year one, the gap between the two can be much smaller than the monthly prices suggest. Work out the cost over two years, at the same excess, before you decide.

HomeServe has a 28-day waiting period before you can claim. With any provider, faults that already exist when you join aren't covered.
