Prices checked on each provider's website on 29 October 2026, for new homeowners. Your price may vary by postcode, boiler and excess.
What is an excess?
The excess is what you pay each time you make a claim. Hometree calls it a call-out fee. A higher excess makes the monthly price lower; a £0 excess makes it higher.
Who offers £0 excess?
| Provider | Excess options | £0 available? |
|---|---|---|
| British Gas HomeCare | £0, £60 or £99 | Yes |
| Hometree | £0, £60 or £95 call-out fee | Yes |
| HomeServe | £60 or £100 | Not on the plans we list |
The prices in our comparison are each provider's lowest published price, which usually comes with an excess. Choosing £0 when you get your quote will raise the monthly price.
When is £0 excess worth it?
Work it out with your own quote. Take the extra you'd pay per year for £0 excess, and compare it with the excess you'd save per claim.
- Likely to claim at least once a year, for example with an older boiler: £0 excess often pays for itself.
- Newer, reliable boiler: you may claim rarely, so a higher excess and a lower monthly price usually works out cheaper.
- An unexpected £60 to £100 would be hard to find at short notice: £0 excess removes that worry, even if it costs a little more overall.
Whatever you choose, compare plans at the same excess. A cheap headline price with a £100 excess isn't directly comparable with a £0 excess plan.
