Choose HomeServe if…
- You want the lowest monthly price right now and are happy with a higher excess.
- You'll compare again at renewal, so the year-two rise matters less to you.
- You want boiler and central heating cover at a published price.
Choose Hometree if…
- You want an annual service included rather than paying for it separately.
- You'd rather have a predictable price over several years, with renewals capped at inflation if you don't claim.
- You want the option of no call-out fee at all.

HomeServe's headline price comes with a £100 excess and no service. If you'd pay for an annual service anyway, and you're likely to keep the plan beyond year one, the gap between the two can be much smaller than the monthly prices suggest. Work out the cost over two years, at the same excess, before you decide.
HomeServe has a 28-day waiting period before you can claim. With any provider, faults that already exist when you join aren't covered.
